Welcome to Congregation
Beth Sholom of Leesburg, Florida
Our services are a mix of Reform and Conservative liturgy, thereby welcoming all Jews to feel comfortable in our Temple and at our Services.
In the late 1940s and early 1950s, twelve Jewish Leesburg merchants and their families met at each other’s home for Friday night Sabbath Services.
Today, Congregation Beth Sholom is the legacy they established for families to practice and enjoy Jewish life and tradition.
FAMILY is the cornerstone and rock of our Congregation. Whether related by genealogy, heritage or spirit, we are the congregation that feels like family, because members respect and support one another's involvement in Jewish tradition.
We invite you to enjoy our religious services and events as a guest with the hope you will join as a member to surround yourself with the warmth and comfort members experience.
We invite you to share our family table
at Congregation Beth Sholom.
Jewish Singles are welcomed to become full members of Beth Sholom and to participate in all Congregation services, programs and social activities. Our facilities are available gratis to the Jewish Singles group for meetings and social events, scheduled in advance with the shul office. Click here for information to print.
SIT ON IT
IT'S JUST THE ANCIENT "SEAT OF MOSES"
BETTER YET
MARK A NEW SEAT IN BETH SHOLOM
You can dedicate a Beth Sholom sanctuary chair as this one was dedicated over 2,000 years ago. The reupholstering and beautification of our sanctuary chairs is now complete. A $50 donation will put your name or the name of a loved-one on the back of a chair. This is a simple but ancient practice in supporting one's synagogue. To dedicate a chair and make a mark, contact Linda Bork at 315-0309. (Click the image to better see the Aramaic inscription.)
A Seat of Moses was uncovered in the excavations of the synagogue at Chorazin. The original is on display in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. On the front of this seat is an Aramaic inscription remembering Yudan ben Simeon. The Seat of Moses was the place of authority in the synagogue and the place where a teacher sat to teach.

The Personal and Congregational Benefits of Contributions
If your visit to our website or to our Temple motivates you to support Congregation Beth Sholom, either as a member or a guest, you can easily do so by clicking the "Donate" button below. We support both the congregation needs of our members and others through our Temple's acts of Tzedakah.
There are many ways to honor, celebrate or remember a loved one or special event and help the Jewish community at the same time. A financial contribution allows Congregation Beth Sholom to strengthen its member services and serve the community. In-kind contributions can work in many ways. If you have any questions or would like to discuss a contribution in honor, celebration or memory of any one or an event, please call Nanci Schwartz at 352-728-4122.
Sponsoring an Oneg brings special pleasure to our religious services. Call Sue Jurisz at 750-5328 or Pam Singer at 787-1999 to discuss an Oneg Shabbat.
PAY YOUR DUES OR EVENT TICKETS USING OUR CREDIT CARD SERVICE. CLICK THE "DONATE" BUTTON:
All Contributions are acknowledged with a card sent to the contributor and, if the gift is in honor or memory of others, to the appropriate recipient notifying them of the gift.
Official notice for IRS filing of the deduction is sent after the next January 1.
Hospital Visits
-
M' Shebeirach -
If you know of a member of Congregation Beth Sholom who is a patient at a local hospital or at home dealing with a wellness issue and who would appreciate or benefit from contact with the Temple, please phone the Temple at 352-326-3692.
The Federal Heath Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) prohibits healthcare providers (hospitals, physicians, other) from sharing information about their patients, so providers no longer contact the patient's religious organization to advise that the congregant is in hospital or under care. It is up to friends and family who know the patient would appreciate contact to let Beth Sholom know of the situation and how we might help.
RENEWED FIRST OF MANY FORTHCOMING
BAR/BAT MITZVAHS
We are pleased to have presented the recent Bar Mitzvah of Max Shen as a prelude for a number of other students currently enjoying the study and maturing work of Bar/Bat Mitzvah study and intellectual growth into an "adult" Jewish member of the community.
We are fortunate, as Max and his family expressed, to have the dedicated expertise of Rabbi Karen Allen as Max's and other students' teacher, counselor and friend through what can sometimes be a challenging educational and emotional period of learning and personal development.
